    What Is Deep Tissue Massage?

At New Leaf Therapies, I provide professional deep tissue massage therapy in Biggin Hill, Bromley, and across South East London, helping clients release chronic tension and restore natural movement.

Deep Tissue Massage is a therapeutic technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Using slow, firm strokes and concentrated pressure, it targets chronic tension patterns that regular massage can't reach.

This treatment is particularly effective for releasing stubborn knots, breaking down adhesions (bands of rigid tissue), and addressing postural issues that cause ongoing discomfort.

Deep tissue work requires skill and patience. It's not about applying maximum pressure, but about working intelligently with your body to release tension safely and effectively.

    Deep Tissue Massage FAQs

Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure to reach deeper muscle layers. You may feel some discomfort in tight areas, but it should never be unbearable. I'll always check in with you and adjust pressure to your comfort level.

While both use firm pressure, deep tissue focuses on releasing chronic tension and adhesions in specific problem areas. Sports massage is more focused on performance, recovery, and injury prevention for active individuals.

You may feel some soreness for 24-48 hours after treatment. This is normal as your muscles release tension. Most clients feel significantly looser and more mobile once any initial soreness subsides. Stay hydrated to help flush out toxins.

For chronic tension, I recommend starting with weekly sessions for 3-4 weeks, then moving to fortnightly or monthly maintenance. Everyone is different, so we'll create a plan based on your specific needs.
